Two European Routes You Should Give a Try

Travelling by motorcycle is one of the best ways to see what Europe has in store. The open road stretching before you and the wind rushing against your face offers a freedom that you can't find anywhere else. Europe has excellent destinations that make for interesting biking experiences. You can take your motorcycle from one country to the next, building memories that will last a lifetime. In our opinion, there's a few routes in Europe that are more fascinating than others when planning a motorcycle tour. Below, we'll list two of our best options for those thinking about taking their bike on a European road trip.

Amalfi Coast in Italy

The Amalfi Coast, which stretches across the Sorrentine Peninsula, is one of Europe's top tourist destinations. It has a beautiful coastline with white sandy shores and clear waters. The Amalfi Coast boasts stunning seaside towns, vineyards and a countryside - all of which can be a part of your tour.

For the best biking experience, begin your trip in Rome. Ride from there to Riserva Nuova, south of Rome on the SR148. Make your way to the quaint little coastal town of Anzio. You can take a break here to admire the exquisite beach.

From Anzio, head to Sperlonga then Naples. Take some time to marvel at the sights in Naples then take the SS145 to Sorrento. The road from Sorrento to Salerno, the SS163, is the real treat. This 50 kilometer stretch of mostly paved road is cut into the rock face to wind around the hills. It provides magnificent views of the coastline below. However, try to avoid peak tourist season when planning your motorcycle tour of the Amalfi Coast. The SS163 is particularly busy in the summer (June, July, and August), and navigating it can be a nightmare. Be sure to pack for all kinds of weather conditions. If you don't already have gear for varying weather conditions, be sure to pick up the appropriate motorcycle gear at stores such as XLMoto before setting off on your journey.

Iceland Ring Road

If you have the time, you can see a little bit of everything in Iceland through the Ring Road, also called Route 1. The route begins and ends at Reykjavik, looping across 1,332 kilometres. Although it's not always a top choice when discussing top tourist destinations, Iceland offers plenty to see. A motorcycle tour around the Land of Fire and Ice is a chance to see parts of the region that you may not have visited on regular tours. From Reykjavik, you can choose stops along the Ring Road to suit your itinerary.

When visiting this beautiful country, you might want to stop by the Blue Lagoon. This is Iceland's famous geothermal bath, which can be your first or last stop, depending on your starting point. Moreover, Vatnajokull is one of the major attractions along Route 1 that is worth stopping for. It's the biggest ice cap in the world at 8,300Km. You get to see glaciers tucked between mountains, creating sights that seem straight out of a movie. The Svinafellsjökull glacier tongue, Fjallsarlön glacier lake and Jökulsarlón glacier lagoon are a few of the attractions to watch out for while you are here.

If you choose to go all the way around on the Ring Road, Hekla Volcano, the Seljalandsfoss waterfall and the Reynisfjara black sand beach are some of the other sights you may choose to add into your itinerary.

Although going by bike throughout Iceland might be one of the best experiences you'll ever have, we do want to recommend exploring the country by the original horse power. It's quite easy getting a place on one of the many horse tours being arranged, just Google it.

A fun fact is that the Icelandic Horse is one of the world's most well-preserved breeds and that the country doesn't allow any other breeds on their grounds. Once a horse leaves their country, they may never go back. In other words, you'll only see domestic-born horses when you visit Iceland.
