Just in from Thailand:

Motorcycle travellers are arriving in Chiang Mai from all points of the globe for the Horizons Unlimited Mini Meeting January 17. So far registered travellers have signed in or registered from Switzerland, Great Britain, Thailand, United States, Germany, Laos, and Canada. It's a wildly mixed adventure travel group, riding motorcycles ranging from BMW's to Honda Phantoms. Some are on 'round the world tours, others on rides in and around Southeast Asia. One threesome is planning an attempted ride across Myanmar. Another traveler is using his BMW F650 on a second 'round the world ride, the second for both he and the motorcycle!

The Horizons Unlimited Mini Meeting is slated to start at 7:00 PM and can last until the early hours of January 18. There will be a seating area set aside by the management of the Chiang Mai Saloon #2 for the HU travellers. At least two members attending are representatives of the world motorcycling media. Each member will be afforded an opportunity to introduce themselves to the group and share experiences about their travels. A multi-media player is available for those attendees wishing to play their CD/DVD.

Myanmar overland

Are there any veteran Myanmar travelers who can provide me with possible route options? I am riding from Indonesia early 2010 (Bali to Belgium) and would like to know if any borders crossings are open to bike riders at this juncture. I am looking at any alternatives to flying the bike from Thailand to India. I hope to be in Chang Mai for the January HUBB meeting. Thanks.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
