The Plan

The plan is simple. Show up on Thursday or at the latest Friday afternoon, meet people and setup. Travel Presentations and Tech clinics are planned throughout the meeting, starting Thursday night. More Detailed Schedule here.

  • Dave Mumper/ Jim Crotts
    Dave and Jim traveled for two months through four countries taking backroads whenever possible. We want to share two items: 1) Anyone can travel in South America or Mexico, and 2) immersing oneself in this type of trip will be life-changing. In number two, going from the abject poverty of Peru and Bolivia to the prosperity in Argentina and Chile challenged our long held values and beliefs.

    Atlantic Crossing by Ship, Loops and Circles in South America, Stahlratte to Panama, Central and Noth America.

    • "From Schwieberdingen, near Stuttgart, Germany 46, no wife, no kids, no house, no car, no dog. Can travel! Backpacking 1996 to 2007, mostly in Asia. Climbed Aconcagua, Argentina, at 6959m the highest mountain in the Americas. Backpacking got a bit boring after more than 10 years, so I got me a 2007 F650 Dakar.
    • Eastern Europe (Ukraine/Balkans) bike trip in 2009: 69 days, 12000km, 20 countries Started the current Americas trip on R1200GSA in Summer 2010, will probably become a RTW with the return to Germany through Russsia in 2014
    • Future bike trips: Possibly Africa, maybe on a lighter bike. I'll definitely take the south route (Iran/India) to South-East Asia one of these years.

    Jeremy Kroeker has traveled to over 30 countries with his motorcycle and done at least one outrageously stupid thing in every one. One October, he rode from Canada to Panama in an attempt to flee the pain of a broken relationship. Motorcycle Therapy - A Canadian Adventure in Central America tells his story of personal discovery, friendship and reconciliation that occurs along the way.
  • More recently, Jeremy rode from Germany through the Middle East into Iran, and finally through North Africa before returning to Europe. He is working on a second book.

  • Daryl Makk has been re-educating the sheeple of the world...one joke at a time since 1993! Daryl is setting off on his motorcycle to tickle the funny bone with The Planet Tour… because anyone can do a world. A victim of a hit and run accident in 2008, Makk was not about to let that get him down. He is out to spread the message of safety, ATGATT (All The gear All The Time) while helping raise money for charity and non-profit groups. He is also an ambassador for the motorcycle community helping raise the image of bikers of all types by bringing the riding and non-riding public together through comedy. He has done 2 solo cross-Canada motorcycle comedy tours in 2010 and 2011 to record his trips for his web show.

    Sam began a solo around-the-world in 2009. It was supposed to be a two-year adventure but four years, 29 countries and 50,000 miles later, he's still plugging away at it. This summer, Sam was joined in Europe for two weeks by his wife for a bit of two-up travel around one of his favorite areas discovered so far... the Julian Alps... an area of forest, farms and winding mountain roads where Italy, Austria and Slovenia meet. Come hear about a motorcycling paradise off the normal European tourist routes.

    Getting you and your motorcycle into Russia for an extended period of travel can seem like an impossible task. It's not all that hard, many have done it, and you can too! But you need to be organized and start the process well in advance. Last month, Sam crossed the Estonia-Russia border and will walk you through the steps for getting your visa and explain the new border crossing procedures you'll need to know. Don't let a little paperwork stop you from exploring this fantastic part of the world!

Born in Trois-Rivières, Québec. Worked and lived in the Yukon Territory as a "Forest Ranger". Was Fire Chief and then Mayor of the Village of Teslin, Alaska. Am a proficient hunter and fisher and general handy-man. Upon retirement, bought a Suzuki V-Strom 650A. In 2010 I spent a few weeks riding through the Yukon and re-visiting areas I had travelled to and over via helicopters, planes, 4x4s, skidoos, boats and afoot. I am hoping that the pictures and information I will share will encourage viewers to appreciate how beautiful this part of the world is, how accessible it is to us riders and moreover how safe one feels amidst the majestic wilderness. Moved to Alix AB in 2011 and went to my first HUBB Nakusp meet. Have logged 51k km on my trusty moto and will be starting a RTW this fall.

Any topic you can contribute having to do with motorcycle travel, maintenance, planning etc, lasting 20 minutes or more, would be great. We have had lots of interest in clinics, ranging from 30 minutes to several hours. Possible subjects: GPS / maps / compass; packing and packing lists; chain lube/repair/replacement, brake changing, oil changing; riding tips for dirt roads; roadside first aid; motorcycle videography and undoubtedly many others! You will want to be at the official HU Campground so you don't have to go looking for people to talk to. Details and location below. Camping is NOT included in your admission price! Camping is a very special price for us of $7 per tent per night, payable on check-in. (Regular price is $19-$27).

Camping IS NOT included in your registration. There is lots of room for camping! For 2013, we have reserved the ENTIRE campground, Thursday through Saturday night only. Nakusp Hotsprings and Halcyon Hotsprings are close by, and there are a number of free bush hotsprings too.

Attractions include national parks all around, fantastic roads that are easily among the best in the world, beautiful lakes and more, so plan to spend a few days!
