Shipments done by Travellers

The HU Shipping Database!

From THIS page, you can find details of shipments ALREADY MADE by travellers, both air and sea, so you can plan your own shipment.

For each shipment, the details include Shipping Date, Cost, Shipper Contact details and a Description of the experience, often including very detailed and extremely useful information about the requirements for crating or the paperwork involved at the destination location.

If you are aware of any more up-to-date information, or you know of any shipping details for locations which aren't listed below:

Please let us know here for minor details, or
Submit information on a shipment YOU HAVE ALREADY MADE here.

Thanks to all who have contributed this information, keep it coming!

NOTE: This is not our normal view, but Google's API has somehow broken the view with a map and everything nicely laid out. We will fix it as soon as possible, but it's a very big job for us. Any Google API experts feel free to contact us! For now this will have to do, sorry.

Usage: Enter one or more of the fields, as you wish. Blank field means "all". Be sure to use correct country names, e.g. "United Kingdom" not UK or England. Unfortunately "united states" (united states of america doesn't work) gets United Kingdom as well, just work down to the bottom or last page. Not case-sensitive. Results sorted by newest first.

CT FREIGHT were excellent - this was the first time we organised shipment of our bikes overseas and they helped us every step of the way

We sent 2 SUZUKI DR650's by Air from Sydney to Buenos Aires

BMW CRates obtained from Procycles at Hornsby for Free

We had to get a note from a bike dealer saying bikes had been drained and disconnected. Frasers at Mascot got paid $180 for each bike for this privilege which was a total scam but to export you need the letter from a bike dealer / mechanic as proof the goods are not ""Dangerous""

Bikes dropped off at CT Freight and boxed up there on sit by my brother and I. Then sat there waiting for them to be shipped on the requested date.

Each box was approx 220 cm X 100 cm wide X 120 cm high and 242 kg each.
Total for both boxes by air was $4200 AUD all inclusive of freight and charges. This was a bargain as other monkeys wanted way more than this

We had the option of shipping for approx $1500 for both boxes (ie $750 each), but we chose air as we wanted certainty of arrival date.

There was one problem as AEROLINEAS ARGENTINAS refused to take the boxes as they changed their mind and classified them as Dangerous Goods at the last minute when we were in BA. But thanks to Wade Bollard at CT Freight he quickly reorganised and got QANTAS to take the boxes instead. SUper Professional, super courteous and super quick he handled everything brilliantly. AEROLINEAS are terrible to deal with, beware!!!

We left without the Bill of LAding, so had to pay approx $150 USD in BA to collect this document. If you can arrive with this doc in your hand you will save this amount.

Getting them out of customs in BA we were super scared of, but turned out to be dead easy as bikes arrived 8 days after the DAKAR rally kicked off. We did it ourselves using a local friend who spoke the language. YOU NEED SPANISH SKILLS to do this. Either go with someone that speaks the lingo or use Sandra and Javier at Dakar Motos in BA. They charge approx $250 USD per bike to do all the paperwork and help you get your bikes out.

Charges at the BA end were approx $150 USD per bike to Customs folks. We also slipped each of the forklift drivers 100 Pesos ($35) each as they spent half an hour with us busting the crates and using their forklifts as jacks so we could get the front wheels on. The 100 Pesos not required but these guys were awesome - really friendly and super helpful.

Ok here is my experience.i booked the shipping with express auto on jan 13 2009 was told it should take about 28 days. It was $1450 plus $150 for insurance. After one cancelled pickup from my house to New Jersey they finally picked it up jan 19 2009 and was delivered at the docks on the 21st jan 2009. great was told it would be put in container and shipped possibly on the following monday. Here is when things went sour. First of all i was getting no communication from ryan at express auto, then finally about a week later he said the bike was waiting for container to be filled.I then found out that Schumacher cargo was doing it and was waiting for another car to have it's title sent so they could fill the container, they then informed me that cars have priority on containers and hope to get it filled soon. Now after 8 weeks they finally got my bike into the customs clearing stage which i was told would take 1 week. My bike finally sailed on the 17 march 2009 it arrived in UK on the 30th march 2009. I was then told i had to pay an extra 195 uk pounds to schumacher for clearing. Also i had to send them proof of ownership that i owned the bike for at least 1 year, also had to send copy of insurance in usa a house bill from at least 1 year ago and copy of my passport.
Then was informed that the bike had to sit for 7 days in quarantine. My friend was allowed to pick up my bike with a letter of approval from me. The bike was picked up on april 9 2009.
I found out today that my title is with schumacher in uk and they will send it to me in uk.
I found this all very stressful because there was no good communication from express auto i had to find out the details myself. In conclusion i find it's better to book it with the boat company. Ian at schumacker in uk was very helpful. Next time i think it would be worth the extra money to fly the bike.

Pretty convenient way of flying your bike to your holiday destination. It is even possible to lead the bike on the same plane you are travelling with. The air freight cost was only 1600$, HOWEVER there are lots of EXTRAS to pay for such as various surcharges, 200$ for freight from Wellington to Auckland, 110$ for a Dangerous Goods Certificate - so it came to 2,400$ in New Zealand, and then 240$ (78,000 pesos) for the shipping agent, and 150$ (48,000 pesos) for storage.

The process is simple - take a walk from the Internatinal Airport terminal to the freight terminal (just donw the road, 10min walk), bring cash (Chile pesos only, there is also an ATM close to the Freight terminal), go through the security entrance of the freight area (you must leave some sort of id, fake driving licence works perfectly), then go to the shipping agent and pay up and you will get some stamped papers, which you then take to customs to get your temporary import permit (and more stamps). Warning - cumtoms as well as most authorities, banks and what-have-not in Chile take long luch breaks, so try to avoid the hours beween 12pm and 3.30pm to ensure everything goes smoothly. Then you take all your papers to warehouse, pay for storage (well, I personally thought it was a rip-off because I was a gringo) and then they get someone to forklift your crate to one of the loading bays where you can put everything together and ride off.

I used a metal motorbike crate with I got for free from the friendly Triumph dealer in Wellington (thanks to Brandon). Whole process takes about 3 hours from landing to riding your bike (excluding lunch break delay, if any).
