Shipments done by Travellers
The HU Shipping Database!
From THIS page, you can find details of shipments ALREADY MADE by travellers, both air and sea, so you can plan your own shipment.
For each shipment, the details include Shipping Date, Cost, Shipper Contact details and a Description of the experience, often including very detailed and extremely useful information about the requirements for crating or the paperwork involved at the destination location.
If you are aware of any more up-to-date information, or you know of any shipping details for locations which aren't listed below:
Please let us know here for minor details, or
Submit information on a shipment YOU HAVE ALREADY MADE here.
Thanks to all who have contributed this information, keep it coming!
NOTE: This is not our normal view, but Google's API has somehow broken the view with a map and everything nicely laid out. We will fix it as soon as possible, but it's a very big job for us. Any Google API experts feel free to contact us! For now this will have to do, sorry.
Usage: Enter one or more of the fields, as you wish. Blank field means "all". Be sure to use correct country names, e.g. "United Kingdom" not UK or England. Unfortunately "united states" (united states of america doesn't work) gets United Kingdom as well, just work down to the bottom or last page. Not case-sensitive. Results sorted by newest first.

Shipment: From Kuala Linggi, Malaysia to Dumai, Indonesia - August, 2004
Batu 32, Jalan Kuala Linggi - Tanjung Agas, Kuala Linggi, Alor Gajah 78200 Melaka. Tel: 06 3879941
Cargo shipping has moved out of Melaka up to Kuala Linggi 40kms up the coast. There are several shipping firms there - if you ride up and ask around you should be able to arrange a better price. We arranged shipping by phone after failing to find the (now closed) Melaka office.
Contact address: Batu 32, Jalan Kuala Linggi - Tanjung Agas, Kuala Linggi, Alor Gajah 78200 Melaka. Tel: 06 3879941
You can get 1 month visa on arrival in Dumai. If you want 2 month Indonesian visa then apply for visa in Penang or Kuala Lumpur. You must show consulate a return ferry ticket (or onward ticket from Indonesia) in order to get visa. This meant we had to buy ferry ticket in Melaka, ride up to KL to get visa, down to Kuala Linggi to ship bike and then get a lift 40km south back to Melaka to catch ferry.
Would be much easier to ship Penang to Medan - you can get visa, ship bike and catch ferry all from Penang so less running around.
Shipment: From Darwin, Australia to Dili, East Timor - August, 2004

It was the simplest and most inexpensive shipping on our RTW-trip so far. As far as we know, Perkins is the only company on the Darwin-Dili route. They have a weekly service (deliver bike on a friday in Darwin - pick it up next wednesday in Dili). No crating necessary!
Costs in Australia: 165 AU$ (1,5 cubic meters)
Costs in East Timor: 28 US$ (port service and other fees)
(total costs: approx. 147 US$)
Shipment: From Vancouver, Canada to Quito, Ecuador - August, 2004

Vancouver, BC, Canada V6P 6G5

I shipped my BMW 1150gs from Vancouver, BC to Quito, Ecuador via KLM Airlines. It took 4 - 5 days from when I dropped it off in Vancouver until it arrived in Quito. The bike was shipped in a crate. I built the crate, so its cost is not included in the $2300 noted above.
I had been told often that I'd need a carnet, but Ricardo Rocco of Quito said it wasn't necessary and I didn't buy one. I got my bike through Ecuadorian Aduanas in one day using a local customs broker that cost about USD$50 - obviously much cheaper than buying a carnet.
Shipment: From Tashkent, Uzbekistan to islamabad, Pakistan - August, 2004

We were lucky and found the perfect accommodation in Dili. It is a privat house with plenty of place. We could make all our cleaning for Australia without any problems. The Lady rent us a water jet for free.
Anyway, there is a kitchen (no stove) with a fritch and we had the house for us alone.
