Shipments done by Travellers

This is my 3rd international bike shipment and second using Bikesabroad.com.au The process was very easy, I procured a shipping crate at BMW perth (free) packed my bike and bikesabroad.com.au arranged the pick up and transport to airport, Carnet clearance and Dangerous goods declaration (they tried to get it as non dangerous goods, but were not able to out of Perth to Cape Town) that would have saved 700AUS. Air freight is more expensive, but then I had my bike to ride in just 4 days vs month +

Upon pick up in Cape Town I decided to use an importer, although I could have done the paperwork myself. It cost me an extra 1,000 rand ($97USD) to have them set up customs meeting, come out and walk through the process.... I used Christopher that was recommend on HU somewhere. Plan to use them if I ship out of Cape Town. Great experience with both Ivan and Christopher! The smaller you pack the bike the cheaper the air freight is. with BMW crate you just remove the front wheel to reduce the volume and can place the panniers inside.

My bike has a Carnet, so the import was only $150 USd for customs paperwork and inspection.

Add another AUD900 for the Carnet paperwork. I didn't need it to cross from Chile into Argentina but might come in handy in the next border crossings.

Anglo Pacific was used to organise the shipping of a 4WD from the UK to the United Arab Emirates in September 2013.

The quotation was full of promises about "best levels of service", speed and "minimum of fuss". An acceptable approximate arrival date ("an overall transit of approximately 2-3 weeks") was agreed, the shipping fee was paid and the car was delivered by road to Southampton port as instructed.

After that the vehicle was, by Anglo Pacific's own admission, "bumped off vessels" on two occasions due to “over allocation for larger customers".

The vehicle eventually arrived almost 2 months late after further delays that included its ship docking in Abu Dhabi port, then leaving the Persian Gulf to go to Jeddah in the Red Sea before returning to Jebel Ali port, Dubai. Thus, the ship used by Anglo Pacific passed Dubai twice on supposedly more important business before returning to dock there.

The broken promises regarding the car’s arrival caused immense inconvenience and further additional expense. Moreover, when it was finally delivered its rear number plate was missing. This made it impossible to drive on public roads without the risk of being pulled over by the police. Anglo Pacific seemed unmoved by the fact that the car had been legally driven on UK roads with both number plates in place to reach Southampton port. The “sales consultant” with whom I repeatedly communicated would not even reimburse the bare minimum £15 (from the £1,851 paid) for the replacement of the number plate in Dubai (receipts were provided) nor showed any other measure of responsibility or goodwill.

If you want a vehicle delivered within a promised time period without important items going missing from the car avoid Anglo Pacific International.

If you think it might be fun to drive around without a number plate in a foreign country, to organise a replacement plate from your country of origin and to receive no compensation for your additional wasted time or financial outlay then Anglo Pacific International might just be the company for you.
