Shipments done by Travellers
The HU Shipping Database!
From THIS page, you can find details of shipments ALREADY MADE by travellers, both air and sea, so you can plan your own shipment.
For each shipment, the details include Shipping Date, Cost, Shipper Contact details and a Description of the experience, often including very detailed and extremely useful information about the requirements for crating or the paperwork involved at the destination location.
If you are aware of any more up-to-date information, or you know of any shipping details for locations which aren't listed below:
Please let us know here for minor details, or
Submit information on a shipment YOU HAVE ALREADY MADE here.
Thanks to all who have contributed this information, keep it coming!
NOTE: This is not our normal view, but Google's API has somehow broken the view with a map and everything nicely laid out. We will fix it as soon as possible, but it's a very big job for us. Any Google API experts feel free to contact us! For now this will have to do, sorry.
Usage: Enter one or more of the fields, as you wish. Blank field means "all". Be sure to use correct country names, e.g. "United Kingdom" not UK or England. Unfortunately "united states" (united states of america doesn't work) gets United Kingdom as well, just work down to the bottom or last page. Not case-sensitive. Results sorted by newest first.

Shipment: From Madrid, Spain to Guayaquil, Ecuador - March, 2013
I sent the bike: KTM 640 Adv. from Madrid, Spain, to Ecuador.
The company iContainers was easy to work with, all the contact was on the phone and e-mail.
The bike was sent into a box of 3 cubic meters, and the sea shipment was only a third of the price, the other two thirds were taxes and stuff.
On the arrival, contact the shipper represent ant, then go PERSONALLY to the customs and get the temporal importation permit. DON'T contract a customs agent, there is not much they can do for you, even if everybody tells you to hire one. This thing is personal between the traveler and the customs.
It took me 3 days to get the bike back, in the same box it arrived. Be patient, try to get to talk to an custom official, don't wait at stupid lines, at least at first until they get to work on your case. Be patient and again, be patient. It will take more than a day to get things done, even if everything works out fine.
Good luck

P.T. AIR CARGO CO., LTD.
294/46 ROMKLAO ROAD 1
KWANG KLONG SAM PRAVEJ, LATKRABANG, BANGKOK 10520
GPS: 13°43'47''N, 100°44'21''E
It is hard to find witout GPS, so get directions from Google Maps. The Map on the P.T. Webside was not verry helpfull to me.
Step 6:
Drive with the P.T. staff to Meechai Packing GPS: 13°45'43''N, 100°44'50''E
There you will have enough time to reduce the package size of the bike. Take out front/back wheel, move down handle bar, take off front/back mud guard, remove windshield etc.
Dangerous Goods: Drain the petrol, disconnect the battery and wrap/tape the connectors.
Meassure the package size of the bike.
The final box will be aprox. 10cm longer/whilder and 18 cm higher then the package size of the bike.
Step 7:
(same or next day) The staff from Meechai Packing will produce a pallet (in no time) and help you to put the bike on the pallet. Straps and wrap are provided.
Then the sides and the top of the box are added.
Step 8:
Hand over the originals of the Temporary Import Permit and Carnet de Passage for custon clearance.
Step 9:
Pay P.T. in cash before the shipment depart for handling, packing and weight.
(whether it is the actual or volumetric weight)
Get the Airbill.
My Carnet de Passage was send with the airfright paperwork to Nepal, wich made me some worries. I did not know before, otherwise I would not allowed that.
Pickup in Nepal/Kathmandu
Step 1:
Go with your airbill to Thai Airways Cargo. 1st Floor romm No 216 in the building just north of the passenger terminal. Get some papers and your Carnet.
Step 2:
Take a taxi to the Air Cargo Complex, about 2 km south of the passenger terminal. I let an argent help me to do the custom clearing, witch takes him about 4h. After 3 houers I get my box from the wahrehouse, and started to take the box appart and the bike trogether. Better ask the cargo-agent about the total costs before he starts helping you. Should be around 5000 Rupies (50€) or less
Shipment: From Chennai, India to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - February, 2013
Govias Group - Headquarters
Catholic Centre Annexe
# 108 (O.No.64) Armenian Street
Chennai 600001 India
Telephone:

+91-44-2536-8796
+91-44-2536-9725
Fax: +91- 44- 2538-2030
When you go there: It is in the Catholic Centre.
It is not the house at the street. You have to enter from the yard of the curch. Then it is on the right hand.
You need a NOC-Letter. It would be good if you have this document, when you go there, because then they can start to work directly.
You will get this document at the traffic police headquarter. Mr. Govias can give you the adress. It is very close to a train station.
At the police station, they might be not willing to give you the NOC, because its not routine work for them. They tried to send me to an other office, somewhere in the city. Well, I asked and asked them, and in the end they did it and have been very friendly. It took about 3 hours, but you have 1-2 hours freetime in between.
Govias&Sons are very professional, realy helpful and did motorbike shippings in the past. They also crate the bike and bring it to the port.
For customs inspection they send a guy with you, (and I guess, he also bribes the custom officier :-) because he wasn't very interested in the bike, just had a look at it. Very good for me :-) )
Ok, I hope this helps...
Shipment: From Perth, Australia to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - February, 2013
Ivan assisted us to ship three KLR650 motorcycles from Perth (Port Fremantle) to Kuala Lumpur (Port Klang).
Unlike most prior shipping arrangements, this was absolutely hassle-free. In particular:
- Ivan offered a quote within 24-hours, and the invoice did not exceed this amount
- Bikes were collected on time and handled carefully
- The Bikes Abroad partner freight yard in Port Klang allowed us to reassemble bikes onsite
- Freight yard agreed to store crates for $20/week until we returned
- Freight yard allowed us to recrate (and use some of their tools) at no cost
- Freight forwarders even took us out to dinner after re-crating, and picked up the cheque
- Bikes arrived back in Perth, delivered early, and were in good condition
On top of this, Ivan answered dozens of questions from us as we explored different route and freight options. Absolutely nothing was too much trouble.
We will defintely be using Bikes Abroad again (in fact, are shipping them from Australia to Greece in the near future).

Thailand, Bangkok to Japan, Osaka
This was the most ridiculous relation between freight and overall cost. $1050 overall and only $60 for the actual seafreight!!!!!!
Service by KPS was all done by email. Drop of the bike at a warehouse close to the airport. They made the crate there. They send often bikes so they know what they are doing.
needful info from Chris Lockwood:
http://www2.gol.com/users/chrisl/japan/entering-japan-with-a-motor.html
At the port,Osaka, the custom wanted to x-ray the crate so it had to be transported to the customhouse, additional $120. The Japanese Custom was very serious but friendly, they assigned a english speaking officer to my assistance.
