Shipments done by Travellers
The HU Shipping Database!
From THIS page, you can find details of shipments ALREADY MADE by travellers, both air and sea, so you can plan your own shipment.
For each shipment, the details include Shipping Date, Cost, Shipper Contact details and a Description of the experience, often including very detailed and extremely useful information about the requirements for crating or the paperwork involved at the destination location.
If you are aware of any more up-to-date information, or you know of any shipping details for locations which aren't listed below:
Please let us know here for minor details, or
Submit information on a shipment YOU HAVE ALREADY MADE here.
Thanks to all who have contributed this information, keep it coming!
NOTE: This is not our normal view, but Google's API has somehow broken the view with a map and everything nicely laid out. We will fix it as soon as possible, but it's a very big job for us. Any Google API experts feel free to contact us! For now this will have to do, sorry.
Usage: Enter one or more of the fields, as you wish. Blank field means "all". Be sure to use correct country names, e.g. "United Kingdom" not UK or England. Unfortunately "united states" (united states of america doesn't work) gets United Kingdom as well, just work down to the bottom or last page. Not case-sensitive. Results sorted by newest first.

I had to ship both bikes from Bogota to North America. I read about Lyncargo on the HUBB and on ADVRider and decided to give them a try. I contacted Veronica to know shipping prices to different cities in Canada and USA and she got back to me in the next 2 days with all the places I requested but they were all very expensive. So I asked her about the price to ship to Miami: $890 estimate! Perfect, sold, I ship to Miami and will simply have to ride the bikes up to Calgary, Alberta!
*But first start with this:*
When I crossed from Venezuela to Colombia I put the 2 bikes under my name, So I had 2 Permisos under the same name, which at the end saved me LOTS of money! If you plan to ship out of Colombia and you are travelling with 2 bikes(friends or couples), get the DIAN (aduana) to write your temporary vehicle importation permit under the same name.
This saved me around $300 on the shipping!
The reason why it saved me this much money is because Lyncargo was able to ship the bikes together as 1 invoice instead of having to make 2 invoices (which involves charging twice for many papers) It's all about bureaucracy but I like bureaucracy when it saves me money. :)
So once I got in Bogota and went to see Veronica, which speaks perfect English(she lived in Canada for a few years), It was very easy to ship the bikes!
Just make sure to get there early in the morning, I was there in early afternoon and I had to go back the next day to finish the process( police inspection and aduana) but that was no big deal.
I offered to pay cash with US dollars in Bogota but Veronica assistant told me it would be simpler to pay collect when I get to Miami. Once I got at the Centurion office in Miami they charged me $50US for paying collect instead of having prepaid in Bogota. I sent an email to Veronica about that after and she replied to me right away explaining that she could not take the payment in US dollars in Colombia, that it had to be in Pesos. And also that if I had paid in Colombia I would have had to pay an extra 16% tax( or 137$) which was waved caused I paid in Miami instead. So all that to say that she really made it the cheapest possible cost she possibly could!
When you contact her by email she will tell you the GPS coordinates abd address and give you directions to get to her office and also where to pick up the bikes in Miami.
For your personal flight to get to Miami, check options to go to Fort Lauderdale airport(FLL) instead. I flew with JetBlue for only $384 which was a lot cheaper than flying to Miami International(MIA) and it's only a short train ride away!

The agents at Heathrow were also very friendly and efficient.
Shipment: From Yokohama, Japan to Bangkok, Thailand - August, 2012
just send an email or maybe twice sometimes they seem to delete English mails...
We got a quote from the former English speaking employee Emma, she seemed to know her business. By the time we got to Japan she was replaced by Kathy who obviously did it the first time...
The office is in Tokyo, but you dont have to go there as they send you the contract and you can fax or mail a scanned version back to them. We went straight to the warehouse in Yokohama and gave them the signed contract (Internet access is pricy in Japan but you can fax from 7/11 convenience stores).
The 1.300 Euro include 400 Euro for the crating (we tried to get one from the motorbike shops around the warehouse, but only non-Japanese motorbikes come in crates) and 200 Euro for personal affects (our lugguage listed by items on a seperate paper). You can leave the boxes with the bike, but they can carry only spare parts and tools.
You need to have an empty petrol tank and need to disconnect the battery, but they didnt know about it at the warehouse and didnt check it. The crading was done very carefully and safe.
After they measured the bike (price goes by size) they book you on the next vessel. For us it took 4 weeks, because there was no earlier boat (min. 5 days). Kathy never heard of the CdP but managed to get it stamped by customs and sent it to us in Cambodia by DHL, where we waited for the bike. The bill of lading she sent by email, you dont need the original in this case.
Just before the bike was supposed to get on the vessel, Kathy mailed us, that the shipping company wont take the bike because they thought its illegal to import motorbikes to Thailand. We provided her with the information from the website of Thai customs that it is possible on the base of a tourist visa and then it worked. Kathy was very confused and not very supportive in this situation.
While we were waiting we already contacted the local shipping agency
LEO Global Logistics Co. Ltd.
251-251/1 Soi Pakdee, Rama III Road
Bangkorlaem, Bangkok 10120 Thailand
Tel. +66-2689 1122
Fax +66-2689 1283 or 1380
Their English is very limited but we got in contact with Mr. Amonrada by chatting via Skype and that worked very well (Skype name: iamamonrada)
In Bangkok we
FIRST went to their office, paid the handling fee (ca. 200 Euro) and
SECOND went with the papers to the harbour in Bangkok to the gate where our vessel was unloaded. There you need to get a stamp for customs, but the gate custom guy didnt know about it but were very helpful and drove us around on their scooters all day.
THIRD is the main customs building down the road. There you have to find the small office with the 2 women who know about the temporary import on the base of a tourist visa. When you get on the customs area their office is in the building behind the one on the right with outside stairs. It is one floor on top of the eating area. Not very many on the campus seem to know about this. They will print out the temporary import permit which you need to show to customs when leaving Thailand. We lost it and were supposed to pay 20 Euro fine for not having it. But eventually they let us go without paying it, because we didnt return to Thailand.
FOURTH Next is paying the harbour fee (20 Euros, depending on the time your bike will stay in the harbour - watch out for weekends!) at the harbour administraion building which is across the road from the main customs building. You probably need someone speaking Thai to help you to fill out different forms, make copies and pay.
FIFTH Back to the gate in the harbour and then the customs officer will have a look on the bike and the frame no. They still need to do lots of adminstration work (they copied every document we possibly had...). But at the same time you can already start unpacking and repacking the bike (if you are two people...).
For the whole process you need a Thai address and a Thai mobile phone no. in addition to your email address. You can take the address of your hotel in Bangkok (or anywhere else, its just for the bill of lading) and you can buy a SIM card anywhere in Thailand (NOT possible in Japan, where you need to be registered). Keep in mind that is always depends where your bike arrives in the harbour. We read from other bikers (www.timetoride.de) and their process was completely different...
We never got an insurance for Thailand. The temporary import document we got at customs was valid the same time as our personal visa (only 14 days because we came overland from Cambodia). But when we got into Thailand from Cambodia by motorbike later we got 4 weeks for the bike. Our visas we prolonged by entering Myanmar in Ranong with a visarun.
With smiling you get quite far in Thailand...dont loose your cool!
