6th Northern Mini Meet

Hi Guys
Fancy one? We did one in Jan07 I recall. Was it in at Dent or Allenheads¿ (great this Spanish keyboard ). Is Blakey letting bikers back?¡ Suggestions on location? Date? Between now and Easter, I´m around on 12/13Jan, 19/20Jan, 2/3Feb, 9/10Feb, 23/24Feb, 1/2Mar and 8/Mar.

Maybe we can make a plan.
cheers

Lion Inn at Blakey Ridge

Hi Chris
A damn good idea, I'd like to get on a weekend soon, missed all (most of the mini-meets)..
I have e-mailed the Lion at Blakey to ask if camping will be back on the menu for 2008. Will post their reply when I get it.
Not been to the Allenheads, but Dents great.
Was good to speak with you at the AQA exams meeting Nov.
See you,
Col

No go at Blakey Ridge

Hi Chris
bad news from the Lion Inn- here is the reply:

"Yes, sorry but the camping field is now permanently closed and will not be re-opened in the future. The only exception to this is for long distance hikers on the Coast to Coast or Lyke Wake Walks who may stay for 1 night in tents.

Regards
Paul Crossland
Manager
The Lion Inn"

So it's over to you,
Cheers for 2008, let's hope it's a better year.... cheaper fuel, empty roads, less tax.... we can always dream.

Hi Chris, Got to say Dent was not the most hospitable of places and Allenheads pub was ran by MR STRANGE, I am sure that a more hospitable place could be found. Not sure if I can get along but will keep an eye on this page to see what happens and when. Jake.

(I know of one or two places up here in Northumberland that would make a decent venue but it all depends what people want and where they want to be.)

Hi Chris
What about Tan Hill? Food is good, is lovely, welcome is warm. There is room for camping, alternatively if folk don't want to camp there is the bunkhouse and rooms available. Can't do 23/24th Feb but whatever suits the majority of folk.

Have been to Tan Hill a couple of times. I like the atmosphere so much, I'm having my stag do there on 16Feb. (un?)Fortunately not much chance of strippers getting up there in Mid Feb . Would be good to have a pre or post Stag Hubber meet there. Any one else keen? What dates can you do? Any other venue suggestions?

Tan Hill?

How about Sat 2nd or the 9th Feb? Should be really cold and miserable up there then...
I'm daft enough for it.
Cheers

Thumbs up

We may be interested based on dates, will watch thread. Heard that Lion Inn has new manager too and it's a bad change. With friends we've camped there each Nov for near 20 years and as of last Nov that is no more as people p*ssed off by new manager. Sounds like they've lost a lot of their market.

Another thought is Cropton - of the brewery fame. They have camping, bike friendly, it's near some off road areas and the is good. Near Pickering and North Yorkshire Moors.
Map and Directions

Tan Hill is a good call too - haven't camped there since change of hands and added luxuries though.

Cropton sounds interesting. Tan Hill is good, but as I'll be there in mid Feb already and as I'm always keen on checking out new places, it could be a goer. I'll call them next week to see what prices/availability they have. Anyone keen on a brewery tour? Anyone else interested: What dates can you do?

Cropton

Just gave Cropton a call. The lady I spoke to seemed very pleasant and bikes aren't a problem. They have a field for camping with no facilities, but it's free. The pub is 2 mins walk from the field. There's a pub: The New Inn, Cropton, North Yorkshire It's £40pp sharing B and B, £45 single. They do tours with advance notice at 11am and 2pm. Possible to do one at another time, by prior arrangement.

Dates: 2/3Feb seems the favourite of those who have replied. 9/10Feb seems ok too. 16/17Feb and 23/24Feb not good. Any comments/preference? Please advise soonish.
cheers
Chris

Sod's law. I can't make either of those dates. Those 2 and the last weekend in Jan are probably the only 3 weekends I can't make in the next 10 weeks or so.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
