Smile Grant and Susan are coming to the 2014 Touratech travel event!

Nous arrivons à la France cet été! Nous espérons vous y voir!

We're very pleased to tell you that Grant and Susan will be in France, Germany and UK this summer, and we hope to catch up with old friends and see many of you there! Here's our spring/summer travel plans:

We will be flying from Canada to France to attend the Touratech France Travel Event in Orange 23-25 May.

We are borrowing a bike from Touratech and riding from France to Ober-Liebersbach for the HU Germany meeting 29 May-1 June.

We will be in Niedereschach for the Touratech Germany Travel Event 13-15 June.

We'll ride from Germany to the UK for our biggest event, HUBB UK 19-22 June. Maybe some of you can ride with us!

After that, plans are still uncertain, but we expect to be in Garmisch for the BMW Motorrad Days 4-6 July, before returning to Canada!

We are very excited about it all, especially Grant since he has not ridden a bike for three years!

Hope to see you somewhere in Europe...

Grant & Susan

France

That's great been looking for just such an event in France , I think an annual trip to the south of France would do you to good . So if you could just start making plans for a HU meeting that would be great.
Moved here last March from the Uk as in the Newby thread .
Look forward to seeing you

Smile HU France Mini Meet at Touratech Travel Event!

Horizons Unlimited travellers are invited to come to a mini meet incorporated into this major event at the invitation of Touratech France.

The Touratech "Maxi Travel Event" is being held between the 23rd-25th May on an 18 hectare site at Orange in the Vaucluse, with over 50 commercial/ professional stands and events taking place over three days, including demonstrations, workshops, off road rider training etc.

Entry is free, camping is free, and all facilities ( where charged) including all day catering are at "bikers" prices according to the TT official advertisement.

Touratech have been holding this event for over 10 years. It's popular, and they are expecting more than 5000 visitors over the three days, so an excellent opportunity to meet new travellers and old friends.

Grant and Susan are coming to this event, so there will be an opportunity to say hello on the HU stand.

There will hopefully be a fixed area for HU members camping (depending on numbers), and any member who would like to give a presentation/talk would be most welcome to fit in with other presentations taking place. Those interested please let us know as soon as possible.

Apologies that this is a bit late, but the opportunity has only just arisen. Please let us know (post to this thread) if you are intending to come so we can plan for numbers.

John Whyman (Pongo)

I'm hoping to get there for the weekend. I only saw the post yesterday so sorting out the logistics is still at an early stage (I have a few other things to do in the area during the following week) but with a bit of luck I'll be there Friday evening. Looking at the site on Street View makes me think I'll need rock pitons rather than tent pegs and a decent air mattress.

Riding the bikes I do is like being innoculated against TT-itis as I haven't seen anything in their catalogue which would be of much / any use to me. Coming to one of their events would seem to be a bit pointless therefore but at least it'll be a cheap trip -especially as I'll probably be riding my old 125! If anyone wants to hear about the pleasures of long distance riding on small bikes I'd be happy to bore you all. Presumably all the talks will be in French or will we have a coin des anglais where we salute the flag and talk about the empire?

Hi,

At the moment, the plan is to mix everyone in together camping unless there are sufficient HU members to make up a significant area, otherwise it will look awful. There will be HU Banners around the camping area, and of course we will have our 'tent' for meeting/greeting etc. I believe there will be a stand up translator available for the talks, so if you have a suitable presentation with slides/vid link could you please PM me with details as soon as possible so I can talk to TT about fitting you in.

Be good to see you, and hope you get to the meeting. Unfortunately the programme for presentations is now entirely booked up as this has been organised by Touratech. Are you in Leon on the west coast of France?

Hope everyone that's coming has a good trip. I must say mine was dreadful coming down from Limoges. I can cope with deluges, but high gusty flukey side winds are my all time hate. It rained until i got to within 100kms of Orange, and it threw it down on the Col de Mortimart with horrendous gusts. I didn't stop until I found some sunshine, then stripped off and converted the bike into a drying line on the side of the road.

It's blowing a hoolie here today again. Going to be interesting putting the stands up!!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
