Shipments done by Travellers

The HU Shipping Database!

From THIS page, you can find details of shipments ALREADY MADE by travellers, both air and sea, so you can plan your own shipment.

For each shipment, the details include Shipping Date, Cost, Shipper Contact details and a Description of the experience, often including very detailed and extremely useful information about the requirements for crating or the paperwork involved at the destination location.

If you are aware of any more up-to-date information, or you know of any shipping details for locations which aren't listed below:

Please let us know here for minor details, or
Submit information on a shipment YOU HAVE ALREADY MADE here.

Thanks to all who have contributed this information, keep it coming!

NOTE: This is not our normal view, but Google's API has somehow broken the view with a map and everything nicely laid out. We will fix it as soon as possible, but it's a very big job for us. Any Google API experts feel free to contact us! For now this will have to do, sorry.

Usage: Enter one or more of the fields, as you wish. Blank field means "all". Be sure to use correct country names, e.g. "United Kingdom" not UK or England. Unfortunately "united states" (united states of america doesn't work) gets United Kingdom as well, just work down to the bottom or last page. Not case-sensitive. Results sorted by newest first.

Quoted price includes everything, thus also including the airport taxes in Entebbe and the local clearing agent's fees.

Of the many companies promoting themselves as 'worldwide motorcycle shippers' that I contacted in Germany, only GS-Sportreisen actually replied with an offer.
One shipper outside germany, listed on the hubb, did reply, but his best offer was 50% more expensive.

I didn't make a crate, the motorcycle was transported on a palet (provided by the shipper) with only the handlebar tied lengthwise to reduce the width to 60cm.

In entebbe it took a week to get the bike out of customs, since I imported the motorbike. For travellers with a carnet or TIP, it should go in one day.

Greame Lee is a really good man. We recommend him very high. He really know what he does and there were no "surprise" in the end. ;-)
From the first contact to the departure of your bike it is possible to do it easy in a week. He give you all information you will need. He know nice guys from Dangerous Goods. No problems all the way.

You will use a crate and here he can't help you, but when we were in Darwin, there were a mount of old used crates at te local Kawasaki Dealer, he also have a big business with Quads. With this information you will find him. Our crate costs 30 AUS$.

Departures from Darwin to K.L. were every saturday.

But there is one problem: All the cargo-airlines have a stop in Singapure and the bureaucracy there must be terrible. We know, it now... Because there was one copy of a paper left they stopped our bike for 5 days! Without telling anybody.
So we wait in K.L. and nobody know what is happened with our bike.... In the end Graeme Lee sort it all out for us and then it was easy to pick up the bike at the airport in K.L.

The pickup was only 14 US$ and a thing from 3 hours. The airport-staff were very helpful and friendly. Nobody try to get some extra-money from us. It was great!

The costs:

1,55 AUS$ per Kilo
15 AUS$ Airwaybill Fee
185,90 AUS$ MAA Miscellaneus - DUE Agent
253,80 AUS$ MCC Miscellaneus - DUE Carrier
180 AUS$ Dangerous Goods

14 US$ in K.L. for Customs Inspection

1000 US$

Ship my Bike
Greg

Dropped my bike off in NY, NY and it was quickly packed up with the empty panniers still on which saved me some luggage allowance. They were very friendly and knowledgeable about the whole process, and after signing a few forms I left the bike with them.

It arrived in london 6 days later as requested and was nicely secured on a metal sled. I took off the restraints and put some petrol in, started it and rode back home. The clearing process cost me

Panalpina

Panalpina has offices worldwide. Find address in lokal Yellow Pages or serch for Panalpina on Internet

I rode the bike from New Orleans to Houston where Panalpina's main facility in Louisiana is located. The bike (Gold Wing) was turned over to Panalpina in Houston on 1 March 2005. The bike had to be crated using PRESSURE TREATED WOOD as per NZ requirement. Panalpina built the crate at a cost of US$960 (included in total cost cited above). I arrived in Aauckland early in the morning of 14 march -05 and learned that my crate had arrived ahead of me so I went to NZ Customs with a Panalpina agent that same moning and cleared the bike in less than 10 minutes. Since I had a Carnet (mandatory) there were no temporary import permit, vehicre registration or other formalities required. I don't remember what Panalpina, Auckland, charged for their "import" services but it was not unreasonable. -
I was disappointed in Panalpina, New Orleans, in one respect: They could not find a air carrier that would take the bike uncrated. (Here in the US the airlines will not deal with an individual after 9/11 so you are forced to use a freight forwarder).
