Shipments done by Travellers
The HU Shipping Database!
From THIS page, you can find details of shipments ALREADY MADE by travellers, both air and sea, so you can plan your own shipment.
For each shipment, the details include Shipping Date, Cost, Shipper Contact details and a Description of the experience, often including very detailed and extremely useful information about the requirements for crating or the paperwork involved at the destination location.
If you are aware of any more up-to-date information, or you know of any shipping details for locations which aren't listed below:
Please let us know here for minor details, or
Submit information on a shipment YOU HAVE ALREADY MADE here.
Thanks to all who have contributed this information, keep it coming!
NOTE: This is not our normal view, but Google's API has somehow broken the view with a map and everything nicely laid out. We will fix it as soon as possible, but it's a very big job for us. Any Google API experts feel free to contact us! For now this will have to do, sorry.
Usage: Enter one or more of the fields, as you wish. Blank field means "all". Be sure to use correct country names, e.g. "United Kingdom" not UK or England. Unfortunately "united states" (united states of america doesn't work) gets United Kingdom as well, just work down to the bottom or last page. Not case-sensitive. Results sorted by newest first.

This company is really reliable, they did the land transfer included from Munich to Bremerhaven, I did everything by email without phone calls and also without any telephone calls. You just need to give the motorcycle with the keys, that is very important because they transfer the motorcycle to the boats by riding. If you don't give the keys they charge you more because they need to use hoists or other way.
Shipment: From Georgetown, Guyana to Ipswich, United Kingdom - October, 2003

Unusual but cheap place to ship back to Britain. Demerara Shipping exists mainly to ship their product (rum) to Europe but take cargo, too. I used them to send personal belongings home 7 years ago with no problems.
Guyana is a major producer of quality hardwoods and so you can knock together your own exotic wood crate for next to nothing. In fact, while I was putting it together in the warehouse, their maintenance joiner ambled over and said that if I'd just turned up there with the bike, they'd have knocked up a crate for me.
Ships leave every three weeks and take 2 weeks to Ipswich - Sods law, I got there just at the wrong time and shipping will take the maximum time. Still, it gives me a few weeks to work on the receiving agents in Britain to try and get the costs down at that end.

Working with Carnet de Passage!
My motorbike was crated in a motorbike store which costed me quite a lot, just delivered motorbike there with all my stuff (180AU$)!! Finally crate was
too big and costed me again more money. Was a crate of a Harley. The crate was picked up by World Wide Shipping with no extra cost because the store
where the bike was crated was in the neighbeourhood, otherwise you pay again costs for pick-up so look for a place in the neighbourhood where your
freighter is.

The maintenance joiner on the docks offered to make a crate up for me after I'd finished! May be worthwhile showing your face down there before you start. Timber is cheap as chips in Guyana, though, if you want to make up your own.
Ships leave about every 3 weeks to the UK, but can be held up as they need to load in dry weather (most of the cargo is bulk rice or sugar).
Bikes go in crates loose, not in containers but are within a sealed hold on the ship. Bear this in mind when building crate as they will be lifted with
straps, not forklifts.

Delivered bike and crate to dockside and put together there. Guys on dock very helpful - finding other bits of timber etc. Just managed to squeeze on to a flat rack behind an overland truck belonging to friends of ours (for beer money - can't be bad).
Price quoted is as given to us to ship separately (assuming 3 cubic metres which is about right). Costs listed include dock processing, tying down etc. We'll come back with the Argy charges later (if it gets here!)
