The HU Shipping Database!
From THIS page, you can find details of shipments ALREADY MADE by travellers, both air and sea, so you can plan your own shipment.
For each shipment, the details include Shipping Date, Cost, Shipper Contact details and a Description of the experience, often including very detailed and extremely useful information about the requirements for crating or the paperwork involved at the destination location.
If you are aware of any more up-to-date information, or you know of any shipping details for locations which aren't listed below:
Please let us know here for minor details, or
Submit information on a shipment YOU HAVE ALREADY MADE here.
Thanks to all who have contributed this information, keep it coming!
NOTE: This is not our normal view, but Google's API has somehow broken the view with a map and everything nicely laid out. We will fix it as soon as possible, but it's a very big job for us. Any Google API experts feel free to contact us! For now this will have to do, sorry.
Usage: Enter one or more of the fields, as you wish. Blank field means "all". Be sure to use correct country names, e.g. "United Kingdom" not UK or England. Unfortunately "united states" (united states of america doesn't work) gets United Kingdom as well, just work down to the bottom or last page. Not case-sensitive. Results sorted by newest first.
Shipment: From Cairns, Australia to Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea - September, 2003
Australian airExpress
Cairns
Australia
Shipment: From London, United Kingdom to New York, United States - September, 2003
London Heathrow -> Newark, New York.
I was recommended not to fly to JFK. They are more agressive and difficult.
US Customs was 3 minutes walk from UTi at Newark. Amazing. Temporary import into USA customs form completed. Carnet not used.
I arrived 2 hours after my bike, cleared it in 30 minutes, got my crate and was on the road an hour later.
Highly recommended.
Shipment: From London, United Kingdom to Montreal, Canada - August, 2003
Motorcycle Express
Motorcycle Express sorted it all out for me, very simple and straightforward, just rolled up with the bike at Stanstead airport & gave it to them. Saw it again in Canada a week later, no extra charges to store it in Canada for a few days also.
Easy peasy lemon squeezy.
Shipment: From London, United Kingdom to Phoenix, United States - August, 2003
UK phone 01784 437 333
The odyssey of shipping my new Africa Twin from the uk turned into an ordeal as soon as the bike landed in phoenix, az...
my friend and i purchased two new leftover '02 africa twins from doble honda phone 020.8668.8851) in london in june of this year....
the manager at doble, mike, was great to deal with..was very happy with the price paid for the bikes, and then he crated in orginal honda crates for only 50 pounds each bike--they arrived without damage of any sort...
Mike arranged the air shipping with nearby fwx eaton freight, who had them on a non-stop british airways flight to phoenix in two days.
The problems started in phoenix, the bottom line being that it's much easier to clear goods thru cutoms if you're not a resident of that country. Because we are USA residents, a problem. After several false starts, we finally gave up, and had them trucked via bonded company to warehouse that straddles the usa/mexico border.
Cleared into mexico quickly, no problem. The company that finally cleared them was import/export international phone 619.671.2324
importexport -@- earthlink.net
The owner, dan williams was easy to deal with, speaks english and spanish, and made everything happen within 24 hours of the bikes' arrival in the warehouse there.
Summary: doble honda in london--the best!
fwx eaton freight--the best!
dan williams, import/export international--the best!
If shipping bike into usa with intent to go into Mexico, suggest shipping into los angeles or san diego, let dan williams take it from there...
Shipment: From Perth, Australia to Bangkok, Thailand - August, 2003
Perth was no problem. But Bangkok and the customs are slow and not too bright. My trike took 10 days to clear.
I did have a few things stolen from the trike if this happens to you DO NOT LEAVE THE PORT UNTILL YOU HAVE A REPORT OF DAMAGE OR STOLEN GOODS. I left the port without a report thinking that the boss from EGL had everything in hand. The boss could not speak English. If possible get someone to translator even if it means using a mobile phone. I had told the company before hand that there were some belongs stolen when I was taken to the trike for the engine number inspection but they never made out a report for me. Be warned. Send by air always easier.

Below is the description for the border crossing Oz/PNG. I have made it a full story and you are welcome to cut down any text!
Yes, it's possible, Papua New Guinea is a lovely country, despite all the stories spread about "rascals" and anything else. We spent a month
travelling arround and had a absolutly fantastic time within an amazing culture (700 langages!), very hospitable, happy and polite people, the most
interesting expats. We did not have any problems at all (except the odd hand in your pocket...).And real road challenges I can asure you!
We flew the bike from Cairns to Port Moresby after cheching the shipping and flying prices. No shipping by boat from Cairns is possible and we decided to spend the extra money flying wich saved time as well.
Fyling is pretty straight forward:
- Make an appointment with customes to clear your Carnett / Temp import.
- Go to Australian airExpress and reserve your space on the flight (no storage charges apply).
- Deliver bike a day in advance at Cairns airport and fill in al the forms, hand over the bike (uncrated) and they will strap it in a container and off you go.
One snag though, you need to fill in a "dangerous good declaration", the people are not allowed to help you in anyway, not even tell you what's wrong with it, they just return it with a smile and walk off! The documents needs to be filled in exactly including all dots and lowercase and capitals on the right place (mine got flatly refused because the kg should have been KG and as they are not allowed to tell you whats wrong with it you keep on wondering where you go wrong). You have to PAY Aus$ 60.00 for this "service"
and the great thing is; they did not even check if I drained the tank ot battery, as long as the paperwork was right, crazy burocratie in OZ, hahahah! If you need any help just give me a shout.
In Port Moresby you go to Cargo and pickup the paperwork, then across the road to DHL where a very nice gentleman does all the paperwork for you, he
declares and even stands deposit for you, drives you to the taxation office, and all for FREE! Back to cargo where you hand over the paperwork, collect
the bike and off you go, one hour and your gone, what a difference with Oz!
Prices are:
- Weight of the bike Aus$ 1.25 per kilo
- Various documents Aus$ 136.50
- Dangerous Goods Declaration Aus 60.00
Total of Aus$ 423.25
Based on a Royal Enfield 180kg (they did not check the weight of the bike and we strapped some extra lugage on it, hint hint).
Hope this helps anybody going to this lovely country!
