Shipments done by Travellers

The HU Shipping Database!

From THIS page, you can find details of shipments ALREADY MADE by travellers, both air and sea, so you can plan your own shipment.

For each shipment, the details include Shipping Date, Cost, Shipper Contact details and a Description of the experience, often including very detailed and extremely useful information about the requirements for crating or the paperwork involved at the destination location.

If you are aware of any more up-to-date information, or you know of any shipping details for locations which aren't listed below:

Please let us know here for minor details, or
Submit information on a shipment YOU HAVE ALREADY MADE here.

Thanks to all who have contributed this information, keep it coming!

NOTE: This is not our normal view, but Google's API has somehow broken the view with a map and everything nicely laid out. We will fix it as soon as possible, but it's a very big job for us. Any Google API experts feel free to contact us! For now this will have to do, sorry.

Usage: Enter one or more of the fields, as you wish. Blank field means "all". Be sure to use correct country names, e.g. "United Kingdom" not UK or England. Unfortunately "united states" (united states of america doesn't work) gets United Kingdom as well, just work down to the bottom or last page. Not case-sensitive. Results sorted by newest first.

I shipped my BMW1200GS from Panama to Cape Towm in January 2011. It cost $2000 from the Panama side and when I got to Cape Town it cost another $1000 to get it out. It took 62 days from when I last saw it in Panama to when I collected it in Cape Town. I think the actually sea time was 53 days.

The company in Panama were very helpful and reasonably efficient. They hadn't shipped many motorbikes but did their level best to help. They picked me up and dropped me off when I need it and helped with the paper work. The staff spoke good English.

In Cape Town I dealt with ILA. And they were fantastic.

All in all it went really well. Many people had warned me about shipping. Especially as the crate had to go from Panama to Rotterdam and then change ships for South Africa. But it all went well and I would recommend using either of these companies.

Shipped a DL1000 Vstrom via Los Angeles to Heidelberg, via Hamburg and Frankfurt Germany.
Trailered the bike to LA from Ladysmith BC to take advantage of a west coast container shipment. We were going down that way anyway.
Stefan has you provide all the documentation with the bike and a deposit to hold a space to him in advance, then balance before the bike is shipped. You require alot of documents to be 'notarized' so that he can act as your agent. We spent money with a lawyer only to find out that the logistics company we dropped the bike with had a notary on site that could have done it much cheaper. Oh well, live and learn.
Stefan ships with re-usable metal crates, everything you want to go should be packed up with the bike, we had panniers stuffed with riding gear. All ships for 1 low price.
He has had shipments from Vancouver in past and more recently, and does a R&R shipment out of Orlando Florida.
Communication could be a little better, but I would strongly recommend him.

On Counter at Qantas Freight, Sydney

Terry

On the 10th of November I flew my bike from Sydney to Auckland with Qantas, the process was easy, the guy's on the counter put me in touch with a dangerous goods firm who worked with me, as I wanted to get the bike down there on a dry day, as it has to be clean, they charged Au$125, I took the bike down on the day, disconnected the battery, had a quarter of a tank of petrol.
The Qantas staff, weighed the bike 320kg, then I left the bike in there warehouse. Went back and did the paperwork, paid Au$1100 and walked away!
The bike flew in the day after me, I went down to New Zealand freight after completing the carnet in the customs office in the centre of Auckland, the quarantine guy took five minutes to look at the bike, NZ$25.50, NZ freight charged NZ$30 for paperwork and the bike was brought out! Qantas did a fantastic job strapping my bike into one of their containers, Simple easy service!
